in response to The Case for Deleting Your Drafts
The Folder

She had a folder called Later and it was the largest folder on the computer and it had never been opened for the purpose of doing anything later. It was where things went. Things went in and did not come out, the way the loft was, the way the drawer in the kitchen was.
On the day she read the piece about drafts she opened it, out of a kind of spite, and found four hundred files and one that was called read this first, which she did not remember making, and which said, in her own words, from six years ago: if you are reading this you have opened the folder, which means you are about to delete it or about to do nothing. Do the first one. I know you. Do it now.
She did nothing. She closed the folder. She has thought about the note every day since, and has not opened the folder again, and is not sure whether the note was right or whether she is just a person who takes a long time.
