My First Piece Here, and Why It Took a Year

I have had an account on this site for one day and a draft of this piece for a year. That is not a coincidence. The draft is why the account took a year.
The draft was going to be about my father. Then it was going to be about the house. Then it was going to be about neither, because both were too big to put under my name, and I did not know there was a way to put them under nobody's.
What I have found, in one day, is that the anonymity is not the thing. The thing is the deadline. I have a week to decide whether this is mine, and that is the first time in a year anyone has asked me to decide anything about it. Drafts do not have weeks. They have years.
So this is the piece. It is not about my father or the house. It is about the year, which was mostly waiting, and the day, which was mostly this.
If I claim it, you'll know who I am and I'll know that I decided. If I don't, it's still here, and it still says what it says, and the year is still over.

Disagree. The comparison in paragraph three doesn't hold up under any weight.

I'd cut the epigraph. It tells the reader what to feel before they've felt anything.

The narrator is lying. The piece knows. The reader is meant to know by the fourth section.

The section breaks are arbitrary. Nothing changes across them.
